With all the snow in the ground and more snow forecast next week, chances are we are going to have a White Christmas. It really feels like Christmas when there is snow on the ground. Look at my viburnum tree in front of my house. It has a pyramidal shape and it is my outside Christmas tree. One year, we put white Christmas lights along the branches. It took us 20 sets of lights to cover the whole tree. We kept the lights for three years. One spring when it was covered with white flowers, we turned on the light and it was magical albeit weird having Christmas lights on Mother's Day. Then I had to prune the tree, so we took them all off and never put them back again.
White Christmas was written by Irving Berlin and introduced by Bing Crosby in a 1942 movie called "Holiday Inn" starring Bing Crosby and Marjorie Reynolds. Bing Crosby also introduced "White Christmas" to the public for the first time on his NBC radio show, the Kraft Music Hall on Dec. 25, 1941. "White Christmas", a song of yearning for "the ones we used to know," was released to a war-torn public during the darkest days of World War II when our soldiers were fighting in Africa and the Pacific where there was no snow. By the end of the World War II it had become the biggest-selling single of all time.
"I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the one I used to know
Where the treetops glisten and children listen
To hear sleighbells in the snow
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white."
WISHING YOU ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY, HEALTHY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!!!

Rosalida,
What a beautiful picture you took! While it has been very cold here in Orange County, we do not have snow....Happy Holidays!
Don't forget me if you learn of anyone moving to "The OC!"

Hi Rosalinda~ Pretty ice sculpture you have there in Brookville, NY! I hope you have a very Merry Christmas! Vickie
Rosalinda, So Pretty!!! I now live in Florida and this morning at church my Pastor said, "We use to play with our toys outside on Christmas morning, I don't know what kids did up north!" We laughed and said... duh we went sleigh riding or rode our bikes in the snow. We loved it and the snow really sets the mood. I won't move back though, I'll watch the snow fall on TV. They actually decorate palm trees down here...huh???
You got it made. Snow is the icing on top that makes Christmas more memorable. We don't have that luxury.
Rosalinda - What a beautiful sight for Christmas. I move from Plainview N.Y. in 1985 to Orange park FL. and have not had a white Christmas since then. I miss the snow at times then when I hear about the snow stormswhile I'm sitting on my couch in shorts I realize I don't miss it that much. Have a Merry Christmas. If you want to send some snow down this way we won't mind a slight dusting.
Michael - I heard from my son who lives in OC that it is so cold there. We are experiencing the Arctic Express with forecost of -5 to 15 degrees tonight and tomorrow.
I'll keep you in mind if I hear anybody looking for a home in OC. Merry Christmas!
Vickie - Snow is so pretty but it is so darn cold today, I don't feel like going out and we are having an office meeting tomorrow and an office party afterwards so I have to go out tomorrow. Have a Merry Christmas.
Sara - I can't wait to go South and get some warmth. We are going to Charleston in a week. It is not as warm as Florida but it is warmer than -5 degrees.
Angelia - Funny, people from the North want to go South in the winter to escape the cold. Snow on the trees say Christmas to me. After Christmas, then I want to go someplace where it is warm.
Robert - Don't you miss Long Island? I guess not. When it's really cold, I'd rather be someplace else nowadays. I must be getting old. Have a Merry Chrismas.
Rosalinda, I sort of "found" you when I did a search of Pinoy Active Rainers. Glad I did.
I lived in Hauppaugue Long Island for a number of years, and remembered how peaceful and beautiful the first snow fall was. Can't say I miss it though, especially when it's time to walk the dog.
We have moved around, since --- to Orlando and Tallahassee FL, Dallas TX, and now in the Bay area of CA. We have had our share of cold spells, but nothing compared to what you have. Fortunately, whenever I have a hankering to see snow, we merely have to go north to Tahoe, and marvel all over again at how beautiful everything is when there is snow on the trees. Yes...it does evoke dreams of a White Christmas.
Maligayang Pasko at Manigong Bagong Taon!
Pacita, Kumusta? Glad you found me.
I have lived in New York only since I landed here in 1967. We moved to Long Island in 1971 and we have stayed here since then. My kids both live in California, one in San Diego and one in Costa Mesa. We'll be moving to SC sometime in the near future since we bought a townhouse there in Charleston. I've been moving my stuffs in batches. I'm sure I'll miss White Christmas but this freezing weather does not agree with me anymore and I can't wait to go South.

Rosalinda --- you'd better get with the southern accents and expressions if you're headed south. I have moved around so much, that I think about the only parts of the country I've never lived in is in the Midwest and Northwest.
I love it in Alameda CA (just a few minutes drive from San Francisco). And no...I don't miss the snow at all. I like looking at blue skies in the winter.
Take care!
