OYSTER BAY-EAST NORWICH COMMUNITY EVENTS FOR FEBRUARY 2011

 

Inspite of the snowy and icy weather, residents of the town of Oyster Bay, NY and its surrounding communities enjoy the diversity of events in town to keep them very busy.  As a service to Oyster Bay-East Norwich community and its neighboring villages - Brookville, Muttontown, Oyster Bay Cove, Bayville, Locust Valley, Syosset, Laurel Hollow, Centre Island and Mill Neck, here is a list of events for you to enjoy as residents of these towns.   Mark your calendar and try to fit few if not all of the following events in Oyster Bay, NY into your schedule.  You'll be glad you did. 

 

EVERY Tuesday-  OPEN MIKE NITE AT JACK HALYARDS AMERICAN BAR AND GRILL (formerly Fiddleheads), Jack Halyards Restaurant, 8 P.M.  For more information, call 922-2999 or visit www.jackhalyards.com.

 

EVERY Wednesday-  LIFE ENRICHMENT CENTER OF OYSTER BAY (formerly DOUBLEDAY-BABCOCK SENIOR CENTER) SENIOR DINNER DISCOUNT AT CANTERBURY ALES.  Members of DBSC can enjoy a $12 meal that includes main entree, soft drink, coffee or tea, tax, and gratuity.  For more information and to make a RESERVATION, call 922-1770. 

 

EVERY Thursday-  OPEN MIKE NITE AT CANTERBURY ALES, Canterbury Ales, approx 8:45 P.M. start time.  For more information, call Mark at 922-3214; http://www.canterburyalesrestaurant.com.

EVERY Saturday-  CREATURE FEATURE.  Bring the kids for an up-close look at one of the Sanctuary's many resident wild creatures.

 EVERY Saturday and Sunday -  VISIT THE OYSTER BAY RAILROAD MUSEUM / VISITOR CENTER and TURNTABLE RAILYARD.
  -  100-102 Audrey Avenue (just north of the gazebo/bandstand- on the right), where you will be directed to the turntable railyard- featuring a variety of refurbished train cars, 11 A.M. to 4 P.M.  For more information and to lend your support to the Museum, call 558-7036 or visit http://www.obrm.org/

EVERY Sunday-  ANIMAL TALES.  Enjoy some inside family time at the Sanctuary while listening to stories of adventure, animals at play, and wonders of nature.

Friday, February 4th-  PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENT WORKSHOP (sponsored by County Legislator Judy Jacobs).

Friday, February 4th-  A TASTE OF SPRING (to benefit TR Sanctuary and Audubon Center)Get away from winter for a night with a cocktail party and up close view of the Sanctuary's birds.  $75/person.

Saturday, February 5th-  GUIDED NATURE WALK (5 miles of trails; no pets or children under age 10).

Tuesday, February 8th-  WATERFRONT CENTER WINTER SPEAKER SERIES:  NICHOLAS HAYES, speaking on his book "Saving Sailing", an action plan for the revival of family sailing.  Suggested donation of $10, payable at the door.

Friday, February 11th-  RAYNHAM HALL ANNUAL VALENTINE'S PARTY (to benefit Raynham Hall), with honoree Mrs. Bradford G. Saturday, February 12th-  OB HISTORICAL SOCIETY EXHIBITION OPENING- THE ROOSEVELTS NEXT DOOR: PORTRAITS OF DEVOTION, revealing the lives of the Oyster Bay Roosevelts who were not politicians, but were influential in building the U.S.  For the first time, on exhibit will be the private family collection of James Alfred Roosevelt, detailing the family's humanitarian support for the Union soldiers in the Civil War.  Also on exhibit will be the dramatic portraits of Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln by the internationally renowned artist Dan Christoffel.  Earle-Wightman House (OB Historical Society), Summit Street, 5 P.M. to 7 P.M.

Saturday, February 26th-  NORTH SHORE LAND ALLIANCE WALK IN THE WOODS: FAVORITE LI SOUND WATERFOWL HOTSPOTSJoin Huntington-Oyster Bay Audubon Society President Stella Miller and Youth Outreach Committee co-chair Brent Bomkamp on this multi-site winter waterfowl program.  Meet at The Nature Conservancy's Uplands Farm, 250 Lawrence Hill Road, Cold Spring Harbor, 9:30 A.M., and carpool from there.  To register, contact NSLA at 626-0908 or andrea@northshorelandalliance.org.
