TWO THINGS I WOULD DO IF I HAD $220 IN SAVINGS?

If I saved $220 this year I would buy 2 new roses - Dick Clark Rose (left) and Chihuly Rose(right).  Both roses go through a constant change of colors that no two roses are alike.  Dick Clark is a changing pinkish red rose while Chiluly is a yellow/orange colored rose.  Both roses are great subject to photograph and to capture their fleeting beauty.  These roses will also enhance my rose garden where I hold a fundraising event in the summer with all proceeds going to a charitable organization in my community.  This has been a tradition I started 18 years ago.  These two beautiful roses will cost me about $40.

With the $180 left, I will donate it to my favorite charity - The CSAC Food Drive.  I went to an ecumenical thanksgiving service last Sunday and the president of the Interreligious and Human Needs Council of which Community Social Action Committee (CSAC) Food Drive is one of their pet projects, is in dire need of financial help this year.  Their annual donation is down this year because of the difficult economic times we are in.  According to Rev. Frey, the fund is short of about $8,000 to accomplish their mission of providing food and food gift certificates to the needy families, seniors and disabled individuals in the caring community of Oyster Bay-East Norwich.  Without this generosity, many people will go without a holiday meal; a tradition most of us take for granted.  The need this year is great and the donation is short so every penny helps.  The Community Social Action Committee (CSAC) works closely with our local churches, schools and agencies to identify those in need for Thanksgiving and the Holiday Season.  In 2009, an increased number of local seniors, individuals and families with children were so grateful to receive assistance as a result of the generosity of the people of the community.

Being CSAC's treasurer for almost 20 years, I have seen all the financial activities of the Council and this year is the worst I have seen.  So with the found money I have, I will donate the $180 to the CSAC Food Drive this holiday season.  The $180 will provide $20 food gift certificates to 9 seniors in the community.

This post is for the ActiveRain 'I could save $220 with Kodak Contest. I have a chance to win a free Kodak Printer, $220 in cash to use for the idea in my blog post, and an extra $100 to use toward ink!

Those are excellent things to do with $220. I am going to have to look into those roses you mentioned and maybe plant some in my yard.

Michael - Thanks.  Those two roses are so beautiful, they deserve a place in the garden. Dick Clark is new for 2011 and Chihuly was introduced in 2003 after the glass artist Chihuly and it's as stunning as his glass bowl of the same color.
