For 20 some odd years, I have been involved with the Interreligious and Human Needs Council in Oyster Bay, NY, having served as President in the 90's and the last 18 years of that association, I have also been the Treasurer of the Community Social Action Committee, an arm of the IHNC and in charge of the Holiday Food Drive. Every year, we ask for food donations and cash donations to buy food gift certificates which total $10,000 more or less. Every year, the community answers our call. Last year donation which will be used this year was only $8000 and we have more needy persons to serve this year. Collection this year which will be used next year is very disappointing. So far, we have only received $2,200 so far.
In the caring community of Oyster Bay-East Norwich, plans for the holiday season include programs to help less fortunate families, senior citizens and disabled individuals. Without this generosity, many people will go without a holiday meal; a tradition most of us take for granted. We hope that you will remember that there are families and individuals in the Oyster Bay-East Norwich community that need our help. The Community Social Action Committee (CSAC) works closely with our local churches, schools and agencies to identify those in need for Thanksgiving and the Holiday Season. In 2009, an increased number of local seniors, individuals and families with children were so grateful to receive assistance as a result of your generosity.
