With the lovely autumn breeze and the sunny weather, the citizens of Oyster Bay, NY gathered today, Oct. 30, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the triangle on the entrance to the Village of Oyster Bay, NY for the rededication of the Theodore Roosevelt Rough Rider Statue and the dedication of the Theodore Roosevelt Triangle. The Theodore Roosevelt Rough Rider Statue was originally dedicated on Oct. 29, 2005 and temporarily placed in front of The Boys & Girls Club of Oyster Bay-East Norwich bldg. across from the triangle. Construction of the triangle started in August 2010 and the statue was moved from The Boys and Girls Club property to Mill-Max Mfg. Corp. in early October for cleaning and modifications before being placed in its new home on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010.

The TR Triangle as the park will be known includes the TR Rough Rider statue by A. Phimister Proctor sitting atop an outcropping and a "Welcome to Oyster Bay - Home of the 26th President Theodore Roosevelt" sign in the front. Phimister Proctor is a leading American animal sculptor and he has statues all over the country in New York, Washington, DC, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, San Francisco and Portland. The TR Triangle is located at the intersection of Pine Hollow road/ South Street (Route 106) between Berry Hill Rd and Lexington Avenue.

Behind the statue is a memorial for his son Quentin Roosevelt who died in World War I as well as four other local veterans. The triangle design, created by Reilly & Associates of Sea Cliff, follows a plan envisioned almost a century ago, as far back to 1918 which includes the planting of five trees each with a plaque honoring five local World War I veterans including Quentin Roosevelt. The park also contains a flagpole as well as the original 1930 American Legion plaque honoring the local soldiers lost in World War I and a cornerstone from the original American Legion Building. The U.S. flag raised today originally was flown over the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier.
Supervisor John Venditto served as the Master of Ceremonies. A Color Guard was provided by the American Legion- Quentin Roosevelt Post No. 4, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8303 and Sagamore Hill National Historic Site rangers. Eagle Scout Matt LaRosa of Boy Scout Troop 253, an eagle scout candidate led the Pledge of Allegiance. Local vocalist JoAnn Criblez with her melodious voice gave the perfect rendition of the National Anthem and the closing musical number "God Bless America."

After the ceremony, people wandered around the park and felt very proud of Oyster Bay's famous son, Theodore Roosevelt - the 26 U.S. President, conservationist, naturalist, author and military leader.
